DAILY READINGS: Exodus 26:1-30; Psalms 70:1-71:24; Acts 15:1-21

How forceful are right words! But what does your arguing prove? Job 6:25, NKJV

Right words have force, but inappropriate words dig a pit for the innocent. Job’s challenge to his friends is a good one for us to heed. It is our nature to jump to conclusions without all the facts and then deliberately and ungraciously share these rash verdicts with others. This is what Job’s companions did. Such behaviour distorts the truth concerning the guilty and even worse, defames and defrauds the innocent. Words can heal or hurt; let us be wise in how we use them, especially when conversing with those who are locked into a cell of despair. —W. A. H.

Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be, filled with messages from Thee. —Frances Ridley Havergal
