DAILY READINGS: 2 Kings 21:19-22:20; Lamentations 2:1-22; 1 Timothy 5:1-24

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:13

Many of our problems are caused because we lack understanding. Paul combats such ignorance about Christian death by stating the truth, namely that we have hope, a hope which is certain and secure. This enables God’s people to die well. As a faithful lady missionary lay dying, her niece said, “You’ll be going home soon to the Lord.” Her response was “Hallelujah, Praise the Lord.” She died soon afterwards. What triumph! —Paul Young

Then when all of life is over,
And our work on earth is done,
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there. —James Milton Black
