DAILY?READINGS: 2 Kings 9; Jeremiah 44; Hebrews 11:17-40

The Lord reigns; Let the peoples tremble! He dwells between the cherubim; Let the earth be moved! Psalm 99:1 (NKJV)

The word “holy” appears four times in this psalm, more than any other. God’s name, His essence, and His inhabitation are declared holy. Charles Spurgeon writes: “The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy which can ever engage the attention of a child of God is the name, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the great God”. God, His name and His dwelling place transcend all that is common and earthly. Let us not speak casually of these, for God is holy. He is separate from all else! All that is associated with Him should be revered. —W. A. H.

Holy and reverend is the name of our eternal King:
Thrice holy Lord, the angels cry; thrice holy, let us sing. —J. Needham
