A bruised reed shall he not break… Isaiah 42:3

A reed was almost valueless. A bruised reed was worth even less and should just have been discarded. But such was our Lord’s gentleness that He would not break it. It is easy to see ourselves in that bruised reed—bruised by sin. But thank the Lord, a bruised reed He did not break. He came alongside the Samaritan woman by the well, blind Bartimaus and the woman caught in adultery—all bruised by sin but He did not discard them. He did the same with us dear saint. We were bruised by sin but He came alongside and tenderly revealed Himself to us and saved us. Let us remember our tender loving Saviour today! —Paul Robertson

In tenderness He sought me, weary and sick with sin.
And on His shoulders brought me back to His fold again.
