Lord’s Day, April 2, 2017

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 9:1-24; Psalms 109:1-110:7; Mark 1:21-45

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen. Genesis 22:14

The compound name, Jehovah-jireh (the Lord will provide), appears only once in the Bible. This unique name was used in connection with the Lamb that God would provide on the mount called Moriah. In the New Testament that mount was called Calvary where Jesus was crucified. Just as the name, Jehovah-jireh, appeared only once in the Bible, so our Saviour appeared “Once in the end of the world hath he
appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself” (Heb. 9:26). He is God’s great provision. —Rex Trogdon

No blood, no altar now, the sacrifice is o’er!
No flame, no smoke ascends on high, the lamb is slain no more.—H. Bonar
