DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 13:24-59; Psalm 118:1-29; Mark 4:1-20

Is not this the carpenter?…And they were offended at him. Mark 6:3

Jesus had returned to Nazareth and began to teach in the synagogue. The people who listened had grown up with Him and knew Him from the carpenter’s shop. His was a case of “familiarity breeds contempt”. They could not conceive of a carpenter being an authoritative teacher of divine truth and so they rejected Him. Their lack of faith hindered the ministry the Saviour could do in their town as we read, “He could there do no mighty work” (v. 5). May we never be instruments in limiting the work of God. —Paul Young

Have Thine own way, Lord, have Thine own way;
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.
Mould me and make me, after Thy will,
While I am waiting yielded and still. —A. A. Pollard
