DAILY READINGS: Numbers 22:1-38; Proverbs 19:1-29; James 3:1-4:12

Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. For he was a good man. Acts 11:23-24

Very few men are designated “good” in the Holy Scriptures. The one referred to here is Barnabas who had come to the large city of Antioch to check reports of remarkable gospel blessing. We are challenged as
we reflect upon how the “good man” reacted to what he witnessed; there was neither acrimony nor jealousy. He clearly saw evidence of God’s grace and was glad! Without hesitation, he would urge them to, “Cleave to the Lord” (Josh. 23:8). Does goodness of such caliber mark us? —George Hall

Can we whose souls are lighted, with wisdom from on high,
Can we to men benighted, the lamp of life deny? —Reginald Heber
