DAILY READINGS: 2 Samuel 16:1-17:29; Jeremiah 1:1-19; Galatians 3:15-29

She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial. Mark 14:8, NKJV

Some criticized Mary for anointing the Lord’s body for burial with expensive anointment. The Lord responded, “She has done a good work for Me” (Mark 14:6, NKJV). A dear sister lost her battle with cancer this year. She often had little during her lifetime, but was known for doing what she could to help others. Selfless service prompts jealousy in those not as committed, but such attitudes should never hinder us from doing a good work for the Lord, if we can. What Mary did would “be told as a memorial to her” (Mark 14:9, NKJV). He will be faithful to remember your good works for Him too! —W. A. H.

Since without Thee we do no good, and with Thee do no ill,
Abide with us in weal and woe, in action and in will. —E. B. Browning
