DAILY READINGS: 2 Kings 2:1-25; Jeremiah 35:1-19; Hebrews 7:1-28

I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 1 Corinthians 3:2

“Why won’t my tree produce any fruit?” the frustrated amateur asked the professional horticulturalist. After a few pointed questions, the answer became clear. The tree didn’t have to work for its food. In fertilizing it too much, the young gardener had made it too easy for the tree to get nutrients. As a result, the tree did not bear fruit. What a vivid reminder to us to make sure we do our own study of the Word of God. We can’t rely on others for our food. In order to bear fruit, we’ve got to do the work! —Lynn Shatford
