2 Kings 4:1-44; Jeremiah 37:1-21; Hebrews 9:1-14

The bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.  Exodus 3:2

At 80, Moses began his greatest ministry after the fire went out. Interestingly, he did not stay and pray or build an altar to commemorate this exciting event, nor did he break off branches to bring them home and worship them. He immediately obeyed the voice of the Lord. The first 40 years of his life he learned to be somebody, then for the next 40 years, he learned to be nobody, now at 80, he had lost all self confidence, and was ready to rely wholly on the Lord for the next 40 years. The words of the Lord, “Certainly I will be with thee” (Ex. 3:12), gave him the confidence to keep moving forward. —Eleanor Isaacson

Now I’m resting, sweetly resting, in the cleft once made for me;
Jesus, blessed Rock of Ages, I will hide myself in Thee. —M. James
