DAILY READINGS: Deut. 10:12-11:32; Song of Sol. 1-2:7; Luke 9:18-36

When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled. Luke 7:9
And He marvelled because of their unbelief. Mark 6:6

On two occasions only do we read of the Lord Jesus that He marvelled. Once He marvelled at the faith of a Roman Centurion, and once He marvelled at the unbelief of the men of Nazareth. The Gentile, with his disadvantaged pagan background, brought the Saviour pleasure by believing. His own people, Jews of Nazareth, dishonoured Him by their unbelief. May we believe His word, implicitly and unreservedly, and bring Him joy by trusting Him. —Jim Flanigan

‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise, Just to know, “Thus saith the Lord.”
—Louisa M. R. Stead
