DAILY READINGS: Gen. 19; Job 22; Matt. 10:24 to 11:1
Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? Genesis 18:12
And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. Genesis 21:6
We might condemn Sarah for initially laughing at God’s promise, but we all have done the same when put into similar “impossible” situations. But, “because she judged him faithful who had promised” (Heb. 11:11), her eventual joy in the Lord was mingled with a blessedness that spread to all. God’s promises don’t depend upon our strength, but upon God Himself. —Tom Steere
Lord Jesus, Thou who only art the endless source of purest joy,
O come and fill this longing heart; May nought but Thee my thoughts employ.
Teach me on Thee to fix my eye, for none but Thee can satisfy. —Believer's Handbook, 140
