DAILY READINGS: Gen. 43; Psalms 20-21; Matt. 25:1-30

And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand. 1 Samuel 27:1

Samuel had anointed David as the future king of Israel. Jonathan, Saul’s heir, had admitted that the throne would be David’s one day. Time and again the Lord rescued David from Saul—yet he still doubted, and decided to go down to the land of the Philistines for safety. We must continually remind ourselves that "our times are in His hand," and when we feel down and defeated, quietly rest in Him, and not panic. —Brian Russell

My times are in Thy hand, Jesus, the crucified!
Those hands my cruel sins had pierced, are now my guard and guide.— William F. Lloyd
