DAILY READINGS: Deut. 13-14:21; Song of Sol. 3:6-5:1; Luke 10:1-24

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8

We readily note several significant things about Daniel from his prophecy. He was a man of: purity—there is not a single blot recorded against him in the Scriptures; principle—he committed himself to continually upholding God's standards; prayer—even the king's edict could not change his daily devotions with his God. Are we such people? Besides pleasing God, we learn from Daniel’s life that faithfulness to God is often the way to favour with man (1:9). May God help us to be Daniels. —W. Ross Rainey
