DAILY READINGS: 2 Chronicles 26; Ezekiel 43; John 19:17-42
I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity
which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and
he restrained them not. 1 Samuel 3:13
The word “restrained” is translated in prior verses as “dim”, referring
to the eye. It appears that Eli turned a blind eye to the vile
activities of his sons, although he knew what they were doing. This
is a solemn warning to fathers in particular, but also to other family
members, not to excuse inappropriate behaviour because of family
relationship. If behaviour is inappropriate for those outside of our
extended families, it also is wrong for those within them.

And when these lips no more can pray, these eyes can weep for them no more
Turn Thou their feet from folly’s way, the wanderers to Thy fold restore.
