DAILY READINGS: 2 Chronicles 32; Ezekiel 48; 1 John 2:12-29

[Elij ah] was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed
earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by
the space of three years and six months. James 5:17

Elij ah was a remarkable man. He came from obscurity to be greatly
used by God. He is one of two men who have gone to heaven without
dying. Yet Elij ah was still human. He had needs and like each
one of us, he was discouraged on occasions. What made Elij ah great,
however, was that he was a man of prayer. His prayers of faith were
outstanding. They did not illustrate his own power, but the power
of God in a man who was prepared to take God at His word. May
we learn this lesson and apply it today. —John M. Clegg

Prayer is the Christian’s vital breath, the Christian’s native air;
His watchword at the gates of death, he enters heaven with prayer.—J. M.
