DAILY READINGS: Gen. 17; Job 20; Matt. 9:18-38
They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun
smite them: for He that hath mercy on them shall lead them, even
by the springs of water shall He guide them. Isaiah 49:10
God’s people are seen labouring in the heat of the day, distressed
and suffering hunger and thirst. But God is merciful and promises to
guide them towards and lead them beside springs of water. This suggests
refreshment in abundance and rest in adequate measure. In
mercy He did it for the Israelites as He brought them out of Egypt
and He is able and willing to do it again for you today. —Roy Hill
When I faint with summer’s heat,
Thou shalt guide my weary feet;
To the streams that still and slow,
Thro’ the verdant pastures flow. —James Merrick
