DAILY READINGS: 1 Chron. 22-23; Ezekiel 20:45-21:32; John 7:31-8:11

I restored that which I took not away. Psalm 69:4

Because of sin, Adam lost his peace, for he was afraid. The last
Adam, the Lord Jesus, gives peace to those who believe, “My peace I
give unto you” (John 14:27). He gives position, “Beloved, now are we
the sons of God” (1 John 3:2). He gives possessions, “the riches of His
grace” (Ephesians 1:7), “the riches of His goodness” (Romans 2:4),
and "the riches of his glory” (Phil. 4:19). Truly we “are satisfied with
favour, and full with the blessings of the Lord". —Neil Dougal

Satisfied with Thee, Lord Jesus, I am blest;
Peace which passeth understanding, on Thy breast;
No more doubting, no more trembling,
Oh, what rest! Oh, what rest!—Anon.

DAILY READINGS: 1 Chronicles 21; Ezekiel 20:1-44; John 7:12-30

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name
under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Acts 4:12

Salvation is the key theme of this text, and three things are readily
observed about it. First, its narrowness—“neither is there salvation in
any other” (see John 14:6). Second, its name—“there is none other
name under heaven given among men” (see Matt. 1:21). Third, its
necessity—“whereby we must be saved” (see John 3:7). Have you
received this salvation through simple faith in Christ?
—W. Ross Rainey

We love to sing of the Lord who died, and His wondrous love proclaim;
How there’s life and peace thro’ the Crucified, and salvation thro’ His name.

DAILY READINGS: 1 Chronicles 19-20; Ezekiel 18-19; John 6:41 to 7:11

That ye may be blameless and harmless…in the midst of a crooked
and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Philippians 2:15

The high-beam glare of an on-coming car at night can blind and
annoy us. How about our witness? Is it a glare to the world or are we
like the moon, which absorbs the rays of the sun and reflects them back
to earth shining with a soft glow. All believers are reflectors of the
source of Light, God’s Son. We represent the altogether lovely One.
May our reflection be the same, with love and concern. —E. Dyck

Channels only, blessed Master,
But with all Thy wondrous pow’r,
Flowing through us, Thou canst use us,
Ev’ry day and ev’ry hour. —Mary E. Maxwell

DAILY READINGS: 1 Chronicles 17-18; Ezekiel 17; John 6:22-40

But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully
entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak
unto you the Gospel of God with much contention. 1 Thess. 2:2
I thank my God upon every remembrance of you. Philippians 1:3

In the church at Philippi were the jailer and probably others who
(before their conversion) had seized Paul, dragged him to the marketplace,
falsely accused him, severely beaten him, thrown him in
jail, then put him in stocks. How can he be thankful for every remembrance
of them? The secret is in Philippians 1:12. It all resulted in "the
furtherance of the Gospel”. When wronged, we too can give thanks
knowing that God can turn it into blessing. —David Logan

They meant it for evil, God meant it for good. —D. J. L

DAILY READINGS: 1 Chronicles 16; Ezekiel 16:35-63; John 6:1-21

Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens: and Thy faithfulness reacheth
unto the clouds. Psalm 36:5
How excellent is Thy lovingkindness, O God! Psalm 36:7

I don’t know about you, but I feel so wretched at times—so weak
in my discipleship that I expect the Lord to come in and chastise. The
psalmist, however, reminds us that his mercy and loving kindness
are limitless. David experienced a love and understanding that never
ended—so let’s lift up our heads and bask in this fact. —Brian Russell

He saw us ruined by the fall,
Yet loved us, notwithstanding all;
He saved us from our lost estate,
His lovingkindness oh how great. —Samuel Medley

DAILY READINGS: 1 Chronicles 15; Ezekiel 16:1-34; John 5:24-47

Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you. 1 Peter 5:7

Are you cumbered down with the cares of this world? My dear
Christian friend, if you have trusted your precious soul to the Saviour
for His keeping for all eternity, can you not trust Him now for much
lesser things? He will not fail you! His everlasting love will keep you
securely till you are safely home in the Father’s House.
—E. MacLelland

O Lord, I cast my care on Thee;
I triumph and adore:
Henceforth my great concern shall be,
To love and praise Thee more. —John Ryland

DAILY READINGS: 1 Chronicles 13-14; Ezekiel 14-15; John 5:1-23

And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the
LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand. Genesis 39:3

No doubt Potiphar was intrigued with this foreigner, this Hebrew
servant (v. 17). He was watching and observing his every move.
Obviously, Joseph must have talked, but his testimony appeared to
be more through his behaviour, not his beliefs—his works, more than
his words. Whatever Potiphar saw in Joseph was a reflection of God
Himself. Someone else was looking also (see v. 7), but she had a completely
different set of eyes. Think no one is watching us? At work, at
home, at play? Think again! —N. Craig Funston

Faith is the victory! Faith is the victory!
O glorious victory that overcomes the world! —John Yates

DAILY READINGS: 1 Chronicles 10-11; Ezekiel 12; John 4:1-30

For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye
are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power:
Colossians 2:9-10

God the Son was in the form of God, but took upon Himself a servant’s
form; and was made in the likeness of men (Phil. 2:6-7). As
God manifest in flesh (I Tim. 3:16), He also manifests to us the fullness
of God. That God should be evident in flesh is a miracle of
divine grace. But He goes further; He imparts Himself to us in such
a manner that we are made to be complete in Him. Not partly saved;
not partly transformed; not partly a child of God; but fully so, for His
fullness is imparted to us. —Doug Kazen

Complete in Thee—each want supplied, and no good thing to me denied;
Since Thou my portion, Lord, wilt be, I ask no more, complete in Thee.—Anon.

DAILY READINGS: 1 Chronicles 10-11; Ezekiel 12; John 4:1-30

The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved. Jeremiah 8:20

God has arranged the seasons for the blessing of mankind. The sun shines warm during summer, bringing forth a bountiful harvest, before the onset of winter. God has also made such an arrangement for man in the spiritual sense. The bright sun of God’s Gospel has bathed our planet for over two thousand years now, and the harvest is still being brought in. But the signs are that the day of God’s grace is about to close, and the terrible day of God’s vengeance is about to break. When the harvest has been gathered in, will you be left behind to face the judgment of God for all of eternity? —W. H. Burnett

Then hasten O sinner, whilst He will receive thee,
The harvest is passing, the summer will end.—Anon.

DAILY READINGS: 1 Chronicles 8-9; Ezekiel 11; John 3:22-36

But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship
one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth
us from all sin. 1 John 1:7a

The route I take to work passes a building advertising “adult entertainment”.
What’s noticeable about the building is there are no windows
so light cannot enter. Those within are in real darkness. Jesus
said, “Men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were
evil”. He said, “I am the light of the world, he that followeth Me shall
not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”. The night is far
spent, the day is at hand, therefore let us put on the armour of light and
walk as children of light before a very dark world. —Jerry Proctor

Walk in the Light and thou shalt find, thy heart made truly His,
Who dwells in cloud-less light enshrined, in whom no darkness is.—Anon.
