DAILY READINGS: Joshua 8; Isaiah 5; Luke 22:54 to 23:12

And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. Genesis 22:7-8

"Where is the lamb?” is the great Old Testament question. “God will provide Himself a lamb” is the great New Testament answer. The Lamb was identified by John the Baptist, “Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Christ was the Lamb who was crucified for the sins of the world, your sins and mine, on Calvary. Is He your Saviour? —Milton Haack

Lamb of God, we fall before Thee, humbly trusting in Thy cross.
That alone be all our glory; all things else are only dross. —Joseph Hart

DAILY READINGS: Joshua 7; Isaiah 3-4; Luke 22:31-53

There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? Genesis 39:9

When our son went to university we looked for books to help him face the “Sodom and Gomorrah” of college life. One sentence I read struck me forcibly, “If a young person truly knows the Lord he will make it! But if that one does not really know Christ in a personal way, all your advice, as a parent, will not help.” When far from home and loved ones, what will keep a young believer from sin? Only a personal relationship with the Saviour and a close walk with God will enable them to overcome temptation. —David Croudace

DAILY READINGS: Joshua 5:13 to 6:27; Isaiah 2; Luke 22:1-30

Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1 Corinthians 15:51-52

Our long-expected change from mortality to immortality will take place “in a moment". The Greek word for a moment is “en atomo”, meaning in an atom of time. In the smallest possible amount of time, we will be changed at the trumpet’s blast. How exciting when our mortal bodies shall put on immortality. “We shall be changed.” As we await the moment of transformation, let us live as those who have experienced the change of the new birth. —Arnot McIntee

The Lord Himself shall come, and shout the quickening word;
Thousands shall answer from the tomb, “Forever with the Lord”—Anon.

DAILY READINGS: Joshua 4 to 5:12; Isaiah 1; Luke 21:5-38

And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man. Revelation 1:13a

Of all the figures used in the Scriptures to mark out the coming Messiah, none is more profound than “Son of Man”. Here there is a vision of man as heaven intended, “the magnificent disclosure of God”. It is a term of glory that combines obedience to his Creator and the over-coming of all things in the fulfillment of His mission, His goal and the glory of His coming! —Les Rainey

DAILY READINGS: Joshua 3; Hosea 11:12 to 14:9; Luke 20:20 to 21:4

Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. Acts 13:26

God’s condemnation is universal. All have sinned. But His gracious offer of salvation is equally universal. It is unto all, and upon all those that believe (Romans 3:22). He has sent forth His absolute and unchanging Word to all, declaring that He does not wish the death of any, but that all should be saved. No sinner will ever go into eternal punishment with out salvation having been provided for them. The Word of salvation goes forth today to every sinner. Come, believe, and live. —Doug Kazen

’Tis He who knows of food for all, who only can afford to call,
Ahungry world to come and feed. All others do but mock their need.—Anon.

DAILY READINGS: Joshua 2; Hosea 10 to 11:11; Luke 20:1-19

Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable. Psalms 145:3

We serve a God who is great, far beyond our comprehension.
His judgments—unsearchable! (Romans 11:33b)
His ways—past finding out! (Romans 11:33b)
His love—passes knowledge! (Ephesians 3:19)
His peace—surpasses all understanding! (Philippians 4:7)
His joy—unspeakable! (1 Peter 1:8)
And His gift—indescribable! (2 Cor. 9:15 NKJV) —Rex Trogdon

O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,
Whose robe is the light, whose canopy space.
His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
And dark is His path on the wings of the storm. —Robert Grant

DAILY READINGS: Joshua 1; Hosea 8-9; Luke 19:29-48

I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs. Psalms 69:30-31

The ox is known for strength and hard labour. Thus a symbol of our service to God. The bullock for sacrifice—our gifts to Him. But more pleasing to God is a song of praise and thanksgiving from our heart to His holy name. —E. MacLelland

Praise the Saviour, O my soul!
He has drunk the bitter gall.
Paid the ransom, set thee free;
Praise Him, praise Him cheerfully. —Anon.

DAILY READINGS: Deut. 34; Hosea 6:4 to 7:16; Luke 19:1-28

And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. Job 1:5

Fathers, you are the patriarchal leader of your family, and you need to act as a priest on your children’s behalf, praying for them daily and living Christ before them. May God give you the wisdom to be the father God would have you to be. —Jim Comte

O give us homes where Christ is Lord and Master,
The Bible read, the precious hymns still sung;
Where prayer comes first in peace or in disaster,
And praise is natural speech to every tongue. —Barbara B. Hart

DAILY READINGS: Deut. 33; Hosea 4 to 6:3; Luke 18:15-43

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Proverbs 8:13

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge” (Prov. 1:7). It is fear of God that causes sinners to humble themselves and receive His solution for sin—the Lord Jesus. How can you identify those who truly fear the Lord? They shun evil and pursue righteousness. They exhibit a spirit of humility. They learn to hate the things that God loathes. There are no degrees of holiness with God. He hates all that opposes His character. May believers adopt this mindset and make no excuses for engaging in what God hates. —Warren Henderson

Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,
Each thought and each motive, beneath God’s control. —W. Longstaff

DAILY READINGS: Deut. 32:15-52; Hosea 2 to 3 ; Luke 17:20 to 18:14

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Matthew 6:25

The Christian life is divinely designed to operate by daily dependence on God. “We walk by faith, not by sight” is the believer’s motto (2 Cor. 5:7). Sometimes the impression is given that only missionaries or those in “full time” ministry live by faith. This could not be further from the truth. All Christians are called to look to the Lord for the provision of all of their needs—spiritual, emotional, and physical. Do not miss the blessing of being fed by His hand today! —Keith Keyser

Since ’tis the Lord’s command, my mouth I open wide;
Lord, open Thou Thy bounteous hand, that I may be supplied. —J. Newton
