2 Chronicles 29:1-36; Ezekiel 45:1-25; John 20:19-31

For we have not followed cunningly devised fables. 2 Peter 1:16

We need to teach our children the truth about God’s Word. It explains: Creation (Gen. 1-2): God made us to share His life with us (John 17:3). Rebellion (Gen. 3): sin “broke” our relationship with God (Rom. 5:12). One family tree (Israel in the Old Testament).  A Saviour: from a manger to the cross, God presents the arrival, the life and the death of the Lord Jesus (the Gospels). Spread of Good News (rest of the New Testament): We see how the gospel spread throughout the world through the Church. And what ties the whole Bible together? Draw the child’s attention to the first letters of the acrostic above and tell them the wonderful message of the CROSS. —Brian Cretney

2 Chronicles 27:1-28:27; Ezekiel 44:1-31; John 20:1-18

Oh that one would give me a drink of the water of the well of
Bethlehem, which is by the gate! 2 Samuel 23:15
David expressed this yearning of his heart when he was in the
cave of Adullam, hiding from Saul. It wasn’t a command, only
the burden of a sigh. But that was enough to prompt three of his
mighty men to risk their lives, to meet the longings of his heart. In
our day, this is best seen when we gather to break bread. It is at
this meeting that we have the unique opportunity to minister to
the Lord’s longings from the depths of our affections, rather than
from a sense of duty. May we follow the example of these mighty
men and promptly, voluntarily, lovingly, minister to Him.

2 Chronicles 26:1-23; Ezekiel 43:1-27; John 19:17-42

When he (Jesus) was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously. 1 Peter 2:23

It’s amazing what our beloved Lord went through, yet He retaliated not. He knew rejection, grievous pain, mocking, spitting, verbal abuse, wrongful accusations and much more. Yet on the cross He said, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). He was there for every one of their sins and ours too. If you do not seek His forgiveness you will face God’s judgment! —Jim Paul

Taste the sweetness of His pardon;
He will take your sins away. —Ida L. Reed

2 Chronicles 25:1-28; Ezekiel 42:1-20; John 18:28-19:16

The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it. Psalm 68:11
I have preached (published) righteousness in the great congregation. Psalm 40:9

One of the many blessings of the 21st century is the marvellous array of technology available to help spread the Word of God: podcasts, radio, television, internet, apps, etc. Also included in this list would be extraordinary translation resources. Thank God for these tools. We need to support those who develop and use them, both prayerfully and financially. Pray for His blessing on all who consistently publish His Word. —Wm. H. Gustafson

2 Chronicles 23:1-24:27; Ezekiel 41:1-26; John 18:1-27

Be not righeous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself? Ecclessiastes 7:16

There is a strong tendency among Christians these days to allow human reasoning to replace Scriptural principles, thus making ourselves “wiser than God.” Paul could say, “my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power” (1 Cor. 2:4). Sadly many times this attitude is hard to detect and we don’t even realize what we are doing. We need to embrace His Word and “walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing” (Col. 1:10). —Vernon Markle

Walk worthy of the Lord, come give your heart to Christ.
Live always bearing fruit for Him, live strengthened by His might.
Walk worthy of the Lord, all power to His name,
Give Him glory, give Him honour, walk worthy of the Lord.—J. Williams

2 Chronicles 21:1-22:12; Ezekiel 40:1-49; John 17:1-26

And one of [the lepers], when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God. Luke 17:15

Loud, in the Greek is “mega.” Voice is “ph?n?.” Literally, this verse says the man glorified God with a loud voice—a megaphone! That is particularly touching, because one of the side effects of leprosy is a damaged larynx. In healing this leper, the Lord Jesus had restored his voice. What was the first thing the well man did? Praised God! We who are saved have been healed from a disease far worse than leprosy. For what purpose do we use our voice? Let us praise God! —Lynn Shatford

2 Chronicles 20:1-37; Ezekiel 39:1-29; John 16:16-33

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. John 14:21

The Lord desires to manifest Himself to obedient hearts. He intimately knows us and wants us to know Him and have a growing relationship with Him. An increasingly deeper knowledge of Him will mold us into His image. He loves to see our positive response to His divine influence upon our lives. As our wills align with His, He will give us our heart’s desires. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. —George Ferrier

2 Chronicles 18:1-19:11; Ezekiel 38:1-23; John 15:17-16:15

How long, O you sons of men, will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness and seek falsehood? Psalm 4:2 NKJV

Mankind was created to glorify God. Until one knows Him, one’s reason for existence is elusively pursued in physical pleasure, materialism and all-too-transient fame. None of these things satisfy, for the human heart craves the knowledge of its origin and desperately seeks its destiny. Only the Maker of all things can answer these fundamental questions. Thanks to their faith in the Lord Jesus, believers possess true knowledge and are free to live in the light, serving the One who loved and redeemed them (1 John 1:5-2:5). —Keith R. Keyser

2 Chronicles 16:1-17:19; Ezekiel 37:1-28; John 15:1-16

What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch. Matthew 26:40-41

Jesus asked Peter, James and John to watch and pray, while He prayed alone to His Father. Thrice He returned to them; thrice, He found them sleeping! In our Christian walk, we need to watch because “the devil…walketh about, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8). We also need to watch for the Lord. He is coming soon! While waiting and watching, let us continue to remember Him, “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come” (1 Cor. 11:26). —K. C. Ung

2 Chronicles 14:1-15:19; Ezekiel 36:16-38; John 14:15-31

He shall bear the glory. Zechariah 6:13

There is a well-known saying—“Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” History is littered with individuals who, having tasted power, were corrupted by it. The greater the power, the greater the change in the ruler. Since Adam forfeited his dominion no man has exercised global authority, though some
have come close to it. But there is a day coming when the Lord Jesus will establish His kingdom on earth and His dominion will be universal. His sinless character, however, ensures that He will not only have the glory, but He will bear it—He can never be corrupted. He is “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Heb. 13:8). —Phil Coulson
