2 Kings 10:1-36; Jeremiah 45:1-47:7; Hebrews 12:1-17

O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together. Psalm 34:3

As servants of our great God we desire to shine the spotlight on the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ. We magnify His grace by praising Him in the company of the lost. We bring His goodness into focus by our zeal for good works. We highlight His wisdom as we look to Him for guidance. His strength is revealed as we look to Him in trials. And each Lord’s Day we extol Him as we remember and proclaim His death. Today let us look for a way to exalt Christ to others. —George Ferrier

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Saviour, all the day long. —Fanny J. Crosby

2 Kings 9:1-37; Jeremiah 44:1-30; Hebrews 11:17-40

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. Matthew 14:23

During the public ministry of the Lord Jesus, great demands were made upon Him from many sources. But it is significant to note that the Lord never allowed these demands to encroach on these special moments when He retired to spend time alone, in fellowship with the Father. If this was so with our Lord, how much
more important that we should strictly maintain the holy habit of spending time alone with our God and Father. To neglect this is to render our service powerless, and ineffectual. —W. H. Burnett

Shut in with Thee, far, far above, the restless world that wars below,
We seek to learn, and prove Thy love, Thy wisdom and Thy grace to know. —Alexander Stewart

2 Kings 8:1-29; Jeremiah 42:7-43:13; Hebrews 11:1-16

I watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the house top. Psalm 102:7

What is more pathetic than a sparrow alone? Usually this bird mingles in chattering groups. When alone it becomes a picture of forlornness. Sometimes we too feel alone and express it saying, “No one understands.” And possibly no one does. We may have a companion but no communion. This unique grief wrenches the
heart. Each one of us bears a cross that is our very own. However, the Lord loves to single out the individual and just like Mary at the tomb, in the midst of our sorrow, He calls us by name (John 20). He makes us feel accepted even when others fail us. —E. Dyck

He knows, He loves, He cares, nothing this truth can dim;
He gives the very best to those, who leave the choice to Him. —Author Unknown

2 Kings 6:24-7:20; Jeremiah 41:1-42:6; Hebrews 10:19-39

That ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore. Joshua 3:4

Our responsibility as believers is to move forward in holiness into the heavenly places in Christ. God is with us and His choice of leaders, like Joshua, is for our blessing. Crossing Jordan was the end of wilderness living for Israel—the beginning of new life in the promised land. In our lives as Christians, this marks the end of self-effort and the beginning of life lived on the principles of faith and obedience. Go forward! We dare not linger or enjoy sin’s pleasure. God’s plans for us are in the promised land of fellowship and joy with Him. —G. C. G.

2 Kings 6:1-23; Jeremiah 39:1-40:16; Hebrews 10:1-18

And he said O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham. Genesis 24:12

Provided solely with his master’s instructions, Abraham’s servant was entrusted with the extraordinary task of seeking a wife for the heir of promise. Initiated under oath, Abraham’s desire bound his servant to the sovereign will of the Lord, God of heaven and earth. As we examine Scriptural prayers where the seeker sought divine guidance, we see three essentials. Our service must follow His guiding Word, be prayerfully aligned with sovereign timing and allow us to be channels of His lovingkindness. This is a proven pattern for serving Him each day. —D. J. Reed

What shall I ask today? Naught but Thine own sweet will;

2 Kings 5:1-27; Jeremiah 38:1-28; Hebrews 9:15-28

Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death. Jeremiah 21:8

Are you good at making decisions? Some people can make snap decisions, others procrastinate. In the above verse God gave the children of Israel a decision to make. It should have been a simple choice, but some of them chose death by disbelieving God. Today we all have that same choice. We can choose eternal life by believing in Jesus Christ, “Whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:15). Dear one, choose life today and live rejoicing for now and all eternity. —Mary Robins

2 Kings 4:1-44; Jeremiah 37:1-21; Hebrews 9:1-14

The Lord hath need of him…they…found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met. Mark 11:3-4

If this colt could have talked, it might have said, “I’m limited by this restraint; while others serve the Lord, I’m stuck here.” Had it managed to loose itself, it would have lost the opportunity to serve the Lord Jesus by giving Him a ride into Jerusalem. The Lord had need of him and so he was restrained, waiting until He called him. Are you stuck? Stay there until the Lord calls you. He is getting you ready for some special service too. —Eleanor Isaacson

I’m waiting for Thee, Lord, Thy beauty to see, Lord,
I’m waiting for Thee, for Thy coming again;
Thou’rt gone over there, Lord, A place to prepare, Lord,
Thy home I shall share, at Thy coming again. —H. Burlingham

2 Kings 3:1-27; Jeremiah 36:1-32; Hebrews 8:1-13

Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God. Acts 2:23

This phrase describes the true cost of our salvation. In eternity past, Calvary was rooted in the very heart of God. We hear the cry, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then I said, Here am I; send me” (Isa. 6:8). Calvary was no accident; no reactive circumstance. It was the expression of God’s unfathomable love for us. The Lord Jesus willingly allowed Himself to be taken by cruel hands and crucified. May we be drawn back to the cross as we remember Him. —Jim Comte

O what a wonder that Jesus found me,
Out in the darkness, no light could I see,
Oh, what a wonder, He put His great arm under,
And wonder of wonders, He saved even me. —Unknown

2 Kings 2:1-25; Jeremiah 35:1-19; Hebrews 7:1-28

Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all. 1 Chronicles 29:12

In this psalm, David acknowledges God’s majesty, omnipotence, and generosity. He affirms that no earthly position or possession should distract from honouring the Lord, for everything comes from Him. Without Christ, the believer is nothing, has nothing, and can do nothing for God (John 15:5). In Christ, we inherit all
things (Rom. 8:17), rule over all things (2 Tim. 2:12), and can do all  things that God endorses (Phil. 4:13). Believers have no boast but in the Lord! —W. A. H.

2 Kings 1:1-18; Jeremiah 34:1-22; Hebrews 5:11-6:20

And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. Luke 6:31 NKJV

When I’ve had a bad day I can have a short, impatient way. I internally make excuses for my behaviour towards someone who is often not at fault. Working in customer service has heightened my sensitivity. It is exceptionally hard dealing with irate customers. It should be mandatory for every person to work at a customer service-type job before being let out into society! In our daily dealings we don’t know what someone is going through and ours may be the only kind word they receive. Lord, help us to be gracious to those serving us and to show Your love! —Danielle Robins

Out in the highways and byways of life, many are weary and sad;
