Exodus 27:20-28:14; Psalm 73:1-28; Acts 15:36-16:15

Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her. Matthew 26:13, NKJV

Of all the women who followed the Lord, Mary of Bethany was the only one who had the privilege of this service of worship. She anointed the Lord’s body for burial (John 12:7). The other women came to the tomb early Sunday morning, but they were too late! He had already risen. To this day and in every place where the Gospel is proclaimed we hear what Mary of Bethany did. The principle is still true—He honours those who honour Him. —Rex Trogdon

Thy name we love, Lord Jesus, and lowly bow before Thee;
And while we live, to Thee we give all blessing, worship, glory. —W. Yerbury

Exodus 26:31-27:19; Psalm 72:1-20; Acts 15:22-35

There standeth one among you. John 1:26
The Lamb of God. John 1:29 This man. John 18:29

“Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people” (John 11:50). Caiaphas the high priest had made this statement. It contains a timeless truth. Our Lord who knew no sin was made sin for us (2 Cor. 5:21). He came to die for all people. Behold the Man, the One, the Lamb, “slain from the foundation of the world” (Rev. 13:8). —Annette Baal

Exodus 26:1-30; Psalms 70:1-71:24; Acts 15:1-21

I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 1 Corinthians 2:3, NKJV

Would the apostle Paul be acceptable in most pulpits today? Hardly. In an era of professional productions and culture-friendly mini-sermons, it seems that preachers marked by the “demonstration of the Spirit and of power” (v. 4) aren’t as welcome anymore as they once were. Paul had neither “excellence of speech or of wisdom” (v. 1) nor “persuasive words of human wisdom” (v. 4). But he did preach “Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (v. 2). If we have lost power in the pulpit, perhaps we have misplaced our one and only source of it. —N. C. Funston

Exodus 25:1-40; Psalm 69:1-36; Acts 14:1-27

The women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things. Luke 23:49

Women feature very prominently in our Lord’s life. They followed Him from the commencement of His public ministry in Galilee till He was crucified, watching Him from afar off even until He was buried (Luke 23:45, 55). They ministered to Him in life and were the first to visit His tomb after His death (Mark 15:41; 16:1). It is no wonder that the Lord first appeared to a woman (Mary Magdalene) after His resurrection (Mark. 16:9). Though women seemed to be “hiding“ from view in the Lord’s time, they were highly honoured by the Lord Himself. —K. C. Ung

Exodus 24:1-18; Psalm 68:1-35; Acts 13:26-52

And Joseph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation. And the children of Israel were fruitful. Exodus 1:6-7

The Israelites flourished as a nation long after Joseph’s generation died. When they were oppressed, God multiplied them. When they were mistreated, He sustained them. When they were enslaved, He delivered them. God’s promise to make them a great nation wasn’t based on others—but on His word alone. Are circumstances not in your favour? Is what you had hoped for gone? Trust God—the giver and keeper of promises. He will multiply, sustain and deliver as you look to Him. —Deborah Manera

Exodus 23:10-33; Psalms 66:1-67:7; Acts 13:1-25

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13
Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life. John 6:68

Humanity has two choices: dryness and death, or flowing waters and life. There are no other options. Peter clearly states that there is no one else to go to but Christ for eternal life. Repent and believe that Jesus Christ has died for your sins and receive the refreshing waters of fellowship with God. —Danielle Robins

There’s a fountain flowing deep and wide. For you, for me, Jesus died. There’s a fountain flowing deep and wide. —Sydney Cox

Exodus 22:1-23:9; Psalms 64:1-65:13; Acts 12:1-25

An excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding…and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel. Dan. 5:12

From childhood through 70 years of captivity, Daniel’s hallmark was spiritual consistency. He purposed in his heart to remain undefiled; he sought God at every opportunity; he depended solely on the wisdom of God; He acknowledged God as the only source of authority and wisdom and spoke truthfully what God had declared—no matter the potential outcome. Daniel seized every opportunity to display God’s faithfulness and trustworthiness. As we follow Daniel’s pattern of consistency, the truth of Christ will dissolve the doubts of those we know. —D. J. Reed

Exodus 21:1-36; Psalms 62:1-63:11; Acts 11:19-30

Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2

One day a Christian said to John Moore, the beloved writer of the hymn Burdens Are Lifted At Calvary, “Why don’t you write a hymn and call it, “Burdens Are Given At Calvary”? Mr. Moore, smiled and declined the offer. He acknowledged, however, that the Lord does burden our heart to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. God’s Word also tells us that we are to bear one another’s burdens. We live in a world where the sinner needs salvation and the saints of God need encouragement. These are burdens we should bear. —Bob Cretney

He’s the lily of the valley, He’s the bright and morning star,

Lord’s Day, March 1, 2020

Exodus 20:1-26; Psalms 60:1-61:8; Acts 11:1-18

For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; he will save us. Isaiah 33:22
It is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick (living) and dead. Acts 10:42
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. James 4:12

Here we see the judicial, legislative and executive branches of government all to be fulfilled in Christ! Thank God that one day He will reign supreme! “And the government shall be upon his shoulder” (Isa. 9:6). —E. C. B.

Rejoice, the Lord is King! Your Lord and King adore!
Rejoice, give thanks and sing, and triumph evermore.
Rejoice in glorious hope! Our Lord the Judge shall come,
And take His servants up to their eternal home. —C. Wesley

Exodus 19:10-25; Psalm 59:1-17; Acts 10:34-48

I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Matthew 11:25

Why was our Lord thankful? He rejoiced for the basis upon which the Father revealed His truth to His creatures. If wisdom or prudence was the criteria, many would be exempt. But simple childlike faith was the threshold for entry into the mysteries of divinity. May God give us such simple faith and may He open our understanding that we may understand the Scriptures and live them out (Luke 24:45). —Vernon Markle
