DAILY?READINGS: 2 Kings 5; Jeremiah 38; Hebrews 9:15-28

And ye murmured in your tents, and said, because the Lord hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us. Deuteronomy 1:27

How can you identify someone who is out of fellowship with God? They would rather stay at home and complain about things than meet with the Lord’s people. God kept His promise and brought the Israelites to their inheritance, a land full of milk and honey, yet many Israelites grumbled against God in their tents. This sin continues today. Believers who decline to be in fellowship with God’s people will seldom be grateful. Joy is in the Lord’s presence and the Lord promises to be in the midst of His people (Matt. 18:20). —Warren A. Henderson

Here in Thy Name we are gathered, come and revive us, O Lord;
There shall be showers of blessing, Thou hast declared in Thy Word.—Fanny Crosby

DAILY?READINGS: 2 Kings 4; Jeremiah 37; Hebrews 9:1-14

Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men. 2 Corinthians 3:2

During my working days I would often drive into a street in Dumfries, Scotland which had a plaque on a wall naming it “Best Kept Street”. It explained why many gardens there were all prim and proper. What a name to live up to! It made me think of the name Christians have to live up to. We should be seeking to emulate Christ’s personality: gracious, caring, zealous, compassionate, blameless and holy.—Brian Powlesland

I am my neighbour’s Bible, He reads me when we meet;
Today he reads me in my home, tomorrow in the street.
He may be relative or friend, or slight acquaintance be;
He may not even know my name, but he is reading me.—Author Unknown

DAILY?READINGS: 2 Kings 3; Jeremiah 36; Hebrews 8

There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were conversant among them. Joshua 8:35

Christian marriages and families, I believe, are under attack from the enemy, as never before. One way of keeping spouses and children together is to read the Word of God together. To start and end the day with the Lord and His Word is essential as a basic minimum requirement for a healthy relationship, and will leave the children with a lasting legacy. —Brian Russell

Thy word upon our daily path, its light divine doth shed,
By it our feet through Satan’s snares, in safety may be led. —Hugh Stowell

DAILY?READINGS: 2 Kings 2; Jeremiah 35; Hebrews 7

Gideon said… give me every man the earrings of his prey… And Gideon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city,… all Israel went thither a whoring after it: which thing became a snare unto Gideon. Judges 8:24, 27

Gideon started so well, simply obeying God and His Word. Sadly, to commemorate a victory, he made a golden ephod—something only the High Priest was to wear—and he set it up in the city. This was contrary to God’s Word, so it is no surprise that it became a snare to him and turned Israel to idols! When we take it upon ourselves to add to (or take away from) what God has written in His Word, it will lead to spiritual disaster instead of blessing. —David Croudace

Undimmed by time, Thy Word is still revealing;
To questing hearts, Thy gracious peace and healing. —S. E. Taylor

DAILY?READINGS: 2 Kings 1; Jeremiah 34; Hebrews 5:11 to 6:20

They two walked on together. Genesis 22:8

Abraham and Isaac faced a deep challenge to their faith. They believed they were acting in God’s will and love but the future was hugely uncertain. Nevertheless, they walked on together. We also face challenges, fears and uncertainties but with God our Father and Jesus our Lord we walk on together. At the beginning of World War II, Great Britain’s King, George VI, broadcast to the nation and quoted the following words, “I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year, ‘Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown’. And he said to me, ‘Put your hand in the hand of God and that shall be to thee better than a light and safer than a known way.’” —Roy Hill

I will follow where He leadeth; I will pasture where He feedeth.
I will follow all the way, Lord; I will follow Jesus ev’ry day. —C. F. Weigle

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Kings 22; Jeremiah 33; Hebrews 4:14 to 5:10

This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:17

Let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His Name. Hebrews 13:15

With whom is God well pleased? His Son! Everything He did for us was perfect, and we owe Him our sacrificial worship. Notice that our worship should be continual. It should consistently characterize our lives. It is also referred to here as fruit. Fruit takes time to grow and be cultivated in our hearts. Do we meditate on Him and prepare precious thoughts of Him to offer to the Father? May God help us to be consistent, prepared worshippers, even today. —E. N.

By His command in bread and cup, His body and His blood we plead;
What on the cross He offered up, is here our sacrifice indeed. —V. Coles

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Kings 21; Jeremiah 32:26-44; Hebrews 4:1-13

When I see the blood I will pass over you. Exodus 12:13

The precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish. 1 Peter 1:19

Life was taken when blood was shed in Old Testament times for “the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Lev.17:11). Being only a picture of something infinitely more wonderful, it was often spoken of as “the blood” without saying whose blood was in view. But in the New Testament, it is clearly the precious blood of Christ. The element must not be considered on its own as having the power to cleanse unless associated with the One who gave His life by shedding His blood. Let us speak or sing about His blood reverently. —C. F. Anderson

Precious, precious blood of Jesus, shed on Calvary,
Shed for rebels, and for sinners, shed for me! —F. R. Havergal

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Kings 20; Jeremiah 32:1-25; Hebrews 3

I am the door, by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved. John 10: 9a

Lord, Lord, open unto us. And He shall answer, I say unto you, I know you not. Luke 13:25b

There were two doors in the clinic. One was open and the doctor was welcoming new patients. The other door was closed—no more room. Today the door to heaven is open to anyone who will come by faith to God—trusting in the Lord Jesus as their Saviour. Jesus said, “No man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” (Jn 14:6). Tomorrow the door could be closed. How solemn the words, “I know you not.” Will you not come while the door is open? —Dave Spearing

I am the Door, the Saviour said, the Life-gate of the soul:
All those who enter in, are made complete and whole. —N. Johnson

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Kings 19; Jeremiah 31; Hebrews 2

No man hath ascended up to heaven. John 3:13

It is impossible for man to make his way up to heaven by climbing a ladder of good works or by attaching oneself to the name of a virtuous person, saint, or church. No, getting us up to heaven required that the only begotten Son come down to earth and get us. He lifted us out of the horrible pit and the miry clay and establish our goings. And because Jesus humbled Himself, God has highly exalted Him. In God’s kingdom the way up is always down. He that loseth his life for My sake shall find it. The greatest of you shall serve. —D. Pickup

The longer I serve Him the sweeter He grows,
The more that I love Him, more love He bestows;
Each day is like heaven, my heart overflows,
The longer I serve Him the sweeter He grows. —William J. Gaither

DAILY?READINGS: 1 Kings 18; Jeremiah 30; Hebrews 1

Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Isaiah 3:10

The course of this world is evil and it is doomed for destruction. But God is faithful and will not forget those who are His. It will be well for the righteous and God will not forget them at the final judgement. At the Judgement Seat of Christ they will reap the good fruit of their doings. May the Lord help us to persevere to obey Him in this age. He is with us! Praise His name! —Johannes Bruwer

Our Father remembers the sparrows,
Their value and fall doth He see;
But dearer to Him are His children,
And He’ll never forget to keep me. —F. A. Graves
