DAILY READINGS: Gen. 4-5; Job 6-7; Matt . 4
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 1 Timothy 1:15
Here is the reason for the coming of the Son of God. His incarnation itself was a great price to pay—a monumental condescension, followed by a life where He was despised and rejected of men, and known as a Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief. But even that was not suffi cient to save—He must die the death of the Cross. He must endure the forsaking of His very own, the injustice of Pilate’s judgement hall, but worst of all, abandonment by God in the awful darkness of Calvary. Hallelujah! What a Saviour. —W. H. Burnett
Was it for me, for me alone; the Saviour left His glorious throne,
The dazzling splendours of the sky; was it for me He came to die?—J. Whyte
