DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 27; Psalms 142-143; Mark 11:1-26

Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and
said…Men and brethren, what shall we do? Acts 2:37

In the litt le village of Cairneyhill, Scotland there is a place called
“Conscience Bridge”—so called because long ago a murder was
confessed there. Someone’s conscience was pricked. Does your conscience
speak to you? Not for a heinous crime, or even for something
you have done. Perhaps it is for something not done. Some kindness
not undertaken, an apology unspoken, a person unvisited or a spiritual
exercise left undone? Are you listening? —Brian Powlesland

Oh, conscience! Conscience! Man’s most faithful friend,
Him thou cans’t comfort, ease, relieve, defend;
But if he will thy friendly checks forego,
Thou art, woe for me, his deadliest foe. —B. Crabbe
