DAILY READINGS: Numbers 2; Psalms 146-147; Mark 12:18-44

Then Jonathan said to David, Tomorrow is the new moon: and thou
shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty. 1 Sam. 20:18

Think how much Thomas missed by not being with the disciples
when the risen Saviour appeared. The Scriptures simply say, “But
Thomas…was not with them.” No reasons or excuses were given,
just the simple statement of fact. We’re quick to absent ourselves
from the gatherings of the saints for the most inconsequential reasons,
whereas Hebrews 10:25 says “not forsaking the assembling of
ourselves together.” Oft en we assume we won’t be missed—our text
suggests otherwise! Empty seats don’t have the ability to worship or
fellowship— saints who fi ll those seats do. —W. H. Gustafson

Praise the Saviour, ye who know Him, who can tell how much we owe Him?
Gladly let us render to Him, all we are and have. —Thomas Kelly
