DAILY READINGS: Numbers 19; Proverbs 16; 2 Peter 3
Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen,
and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the
LORD helped us. 1 Samuel 7:12
There is such promise in the word “hitherto”. It bears testimony
to the Lord’s help in the past and brings the promise of His help in
the future. For the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, “today” is simply
another moment in our personal history, in which we will enjoy
again gracious blessings and provision from the Lord. His care
stretches from far in our past, through today and into the future.

O God our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home. —Isaac Watts
