Blessed is the man…who passing through the valley of Baca, make
it a well; the rain also fi lleth the pools. Psalm 84:5, 6
Baca means “weeping”. The valley of Baca is not a pleasant place.
It is a place where circumstances overwhelm; strength fails; and
teardrops fall. Yet there is a well in that valley. And its waters are
augmented with rain from heaven. In Baca, our Saviour takes our
tears, enriches them with heaven’s rain and makes a reservoir there
for us. Its waters of “grace suffi cient in times past” will sustain us
for the needs ahead. Soon we’ll take our last step in Baca. What joy!
But will we not oft en look back to the well we have left in the valley
and recall those times when His presence was so real and His love
so vivid? —S. McEachern
And tho’ I tremble, when I think how weak I am, and frail,
My soul is satisfi ed to know, His love can never fail. —E. O. Excell
