DAILY READINGS: 2 Kgs. 13 to 14:22; Jer. 49; Heb. 13:7-25
They soon forgot His works; they waited not for His counsel: But
lusted exceedingly in the wilderness…And He gave them their request;
but sent leanness into their soul. Psalm 106:13-15
Israel forgot God’s miracles of mercy and craved the things of the
not so “good old days” in Egypt. God granted their request but sent
leanness into their souls. Are we in danger of pursuing again the
vain things of this world that we left behind at salvation? The lukewarm
Laodicean Church said, “I am rich.” But God said, you are,
“wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked” (Rev.
3:15-17). May God give us the wisdom to see and seek those things
that have real and eternal value. —Milton Haack
