DAILY READINGS: 2 Samuel 8-9; Habakkuk 1; Romans 14:19 to 15:13

But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. 1 Thess. 4:9

The faith of the saints in Thessalonica was well known (1:8). And with that faith came love because God Himself taught them to love one another. This is not something that can be taught by man; to love as Christ loved requires divine intervention in our lives. Such brotherly love is an encouragement to saints and a powerful, indeed unarguable, Gospel to sinners. —Roy Hill

Love thyself last.
Look near, behold thy duty,
To those who walk beside thee down life’s road;
Make glad their days by little acts of beauty,
And help them bear the burden of earth’s load. —Ella W. Wilcox
