DAILY READINGS: Nehemiah 4; Haggai 1; Revelation 9

Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father. 1 Thessalonians 1:3

Faith, hope, and love are the cardinal virtues of the Christian life, and they are the three greatest evidences of salvation. Positively, genuine faith leads to works for our Lord (Eph. 2:8-10); love publicly evidences salvation (Rom. 5:5); and hope expresses an alert expectation of Christ’s return (1 Thess. 1:10). Negatively, without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6), we are without hope if without Christ (Eph. 2:12), and if anyone loves not the Lord Jesus he is accursed (1 Cor. 16:22). —W. Ross Rainey

Faith, and hope, and love, a glorious threefold cord;
Virtues from above, through the goodness of the Lord. —W. R. R.
