DAILY?READINGS: 2 Kings 13 to 14:22; Jeremiah 49; Hebrews 13:7-25

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Matthew 5:13

The Lord used an everyday item to describe the role of the believer in the world. Salt creates thirst. It slows the spread of decay and enhances the flavour of food. The disposition of believers should make others long and thirst for something better. The character of believers should impede the pace of decay in the world. The behaviour of believers should bring out the best in others. How salty am I?—Sid Halsband

Forward! Flock of Jesus, salt of all the earth,
Till each Godly purpose spring to glorious birth:
Sick, they ask for healing; blind, they grope for day;
Pour upon the nations wisdom’s loving ray. —H. Alford
