DAILY?READINGS: Nehemiah 7; Zechariah 2-3; Revelation 12

There is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.    Proverbs 18:24

As the hymn states, “What a friend we have in Jesus!” In Him we find all the qualifications of a true friend. The grace and compassion of His friendship comforts us in uncertain circumstances. He challenges us in honesty about our faults through the Word and the Spirit. As the Gospels attest, our Lord never flattered, but frankly said what was needed, in love. And we can count on this Friend to love us to the very end. “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Heb. 13:5). Friendship involves reciprocation. Does He have our loyalty?    —Milton Haack

What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry, everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer. —J. M. Scriven
