DAILY?READINGS: 2 Samuel 24; Jeremiah 8; Ephesians 2:11-22

For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.  Mark 3:35

It appears on this occasion that the Lord’s mother and brothers came to where He was preaching. For whatever reason, they did not join those gathered to hear the Lord, but rather sent for Him to come to them. Even His listeners were surprised that He ignored their request. What was the reason? Normally, the Lord would have gladly met with His family, but He was engaged in His Father’s business and could not be disturbed. Instead, He told His audience that those who did His Father’s will were His true brethren. Let us be careful not to let loved ones keep us from doing what God calls us to do. —W. A. H.

How I praise Thee, precious Saviour, that Thy love laid hold of me,
Thou hast saved and cleansed and filled me that I might Thy channel be.
