DAILY?READINGS: Gen. 19; Job 22; Matt. 10:24 to 11:1

Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. Psalm 73:17

This is the pivotal verse for the psalmist. He looked at the wealthy, worldly, ungodly people around him and his family and through envy, his “feet were almost gone” and his “steps had well nigh slipped” (v. 2). What a difference it made to go into the sanctuary of God! He realised his foolishness and ignorance and appreciated afresh the close protection, love and care of his God (v. 22). His closing remark is true to us all, “It is good for me to draw near to God” (v. 28). —Dan Coulson

Go and hide beneath His shadow—this shall then be your reward.
