And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4
What a challenge for every father! Paul here gives both a positive and negative admonition. Negatively, we are not to rouse our children to anger by harsh criticism, unreasonable demands or perpetual fault finding. Positively, we are to nurture them spiritually, morally and physically. Nurturing involves teaching them the truths of God and His Word and by being a living example that they can follow and trust. We may need to admonish them, disciplining as necessary, in unconditional love. What a great opportunity and responsibility for every father! —Jim Comte
Happy the home when children praise, lifting our Saviour’s name;
When parents speak and show His love, faithful each day the same.
