Unite my heart to fear thy name. Psalm 86:11
We speak of “undivided attention” in public settings. The audience cannot be listening to both the speaker and the person sitting next to them at the same time. The Scriptures tell us we cannot serve God and
mammon (Matt. 6:24d). Furthermore, we are told that a “double minded man is unstable in all his ways” (Jas. 1:8). And so it is here, the Psalmist links being taught by the Lord and walking in His truth with having a divided heart. Can we be effective for God with a divided heart? —N. C. Funston
Jesus, I my cross have taken, all to leave and follow Thee;
Destitute, despised, forsaken, Thou from hence my all shalt be.
Perish every fond ambition, all I’ve sought, and hoped and known;
Yet how rich is my condition. God and heav’n are still my own. —H. Lyte
