Genesis 46:1-47:27; Psalm 25:1-22; Matthew 26:31-56
It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. Lamentations 3:22-24
Lamentations is like a funeral dirge with absolutely no hope in sight. Jeremiah’s beloved Jerusalem had been reduced to rubble. His heart was broken and overcome with grief; “I Am the man that hath seen affliction…My flesh and my skin hath he made old…” (Lam. 3:1, 4). Yet, in the midst of this bleak scene he cries, “Great is thy faithfulness.” No matter how dark the night may be, rest upon His faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion…therefore will I hope in him.” —Jim Comte
