Exodus 31:1-18; Psalms 79:1-80:19; Acts 18:24-19:20
And Jesus answered them, saying, the hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. John 12:23
Christ was glorified at the cross. The gospel of John speaks several times of Jesus being “lifted up.” The word translated “lifted up” in John is in other places translated “exalted.” Calvary was the moral culmination of an obedient life. His cry of “finished” (John 19:30) was the crowning achievement to a victorious life. Bearing our sins, He was the seed that died to bear much fruit (John 12:24). Having been exalted to heaven, He offers salvation to all peoples. “God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our
Lord Jesus Christ” (Gal. 6:14). —George Ferrier
Lifted up was He to die; “It is finished!” was His cry;
Now in Heav’n exalted high. Hallelujah! What a Savior! —Philip P. Bliss
