Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God. 2 Corinthians 3:5
The tendency to be self-reliant seems to be part of our human nature and one which the world endorses. Even children defiantly protest saying, “I’ll do it my own self!” The danger with this line of thinking is that it feeds our self pride and fails to acknowledge our total dependency upon God for everything. Jesus reminds us that without Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). Perhaps a good question to ask ourselves today is, am I self-reliant or God-dependant? —E. V.
Oh, to be saved from myself, dear Lord, Oh, to be lost in Thee;
Oh, that it may be no more I, but Christ that lives in me. —Mrs. A. Whiddington
