2 Samuel 3:1-39; Micah 6:1-16; Romans 11:13-36

Let the living bird loose into the open field. Leviticus 14:7

Leviticus 14 details the sacrifice to be made when a leper was pronounced clean. Before being released, a living bird was to be dipped into the blood of a sacrificed bird. Imagine the moment of the bird’s release. Watch as its wings open wide and it flies free. The imprisonment of the cage is now in the past, the bird soars on its wing-embracing freedom. What made the difference? The freedom was gained through the sacrifice. The living bird has been dipped in shed blood. It is only upon the grounds of the shed blood of Christ that imprisoned sinners can know true freedom. —Matthew Butler

There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel’s veins;
And sinners plunged beneath that flood, lose all their guilty stains.  —William Cowper
