1 Kings 15:33-16:34; Jeremiah 27:1-28:17; Colossians 4:2-18

They feared the Lord, and served their own gods. 2 Kgs. 17:33 
Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served. Josh. 24:14

Would Israel trust the Lord or their own gods? They tried to do both! This compromise resulted in the demise of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. The Lord said, “No man can serve two masters” (Matt. 6:24). James says “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways” (Jas. 1:8). If you are trying to walk hand-in-hand with the world listen to Elijah’s voice, “How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him” (1 Kgs. 18:21). —David Croudace
