2 Kings 20:1-21:18; Lamentations 1:1-22; 1 Timothy 4:1-16
But when he saw the wind…he was afraid. Matthew 14:30
Peter’s problems resulted from taking his eyes off the Lord. Like Peter, we can focus on surrounding problems and begin to sink beneath the waves (Matt. 14:30). Like Peter, we can focus on other people and how unfair life seems to us (John 21:22). Like Peter, our pride can cause us to focus on people’s opinions of us rather than the Lord’s (Gal. 2:12). Problems. People. Pride. How we need to heed the Lord’s instruction to Peter: “What is that to you? You follow Me” (John 21:22 NKJV). Then, by God’s grace, we can be like Peter at the end of his life: “Looking for…the coming of the day of God” (2 Peter 3:12). Where will we set our eyes today? —Brian Cretney
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face;
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace. —H. Lemmel
