Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:16, NKJV
Peter recognized the evidence and rightly identified Jesus as the Messiah. But even in his declaration, Peter imagined something altogether different from God’s plan. Peter saw a Reformer-King who had come to rid Israel of her enemies. It was at this point that Jesus began to clearly explain the purpose of His coming. God had purposed from before the foundations of the earth that His Servant would suffer many things and that He would give His life as a ransom for many. —J. D. Fraser
I will sing the wondrous story,
Of the Christ who died for me,
How He left His home in glory,
For the cross of Calvary. —F. H. Rowley
