F. B. Meyer refers to these three hallmarks of believers as the root, the stem, and the fruit. Faith is the root, for who or what we trust in determines what kind of plant will grow. Hope is the stem, for our sure confidence that God will complete what He has begun, is what causes us to stand and grow strong amidst life’s storms.
