DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 14:33-57; Psalm 119:41-72; Mark 5:1-20

For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption. Acts 13:36

David's life from a teenage boy until the end of his forty year reign was a mixture of testings, temptations and triumphs. His generation was extremely difficult—one that he would not have wished for. He knew the humiliation of rejection, disloyalty of family, the disgrace and consequences of sinning. Yet through sincere repentance, he regained his confidence and trust in God. Ultimately God described him as a man after His own heart. What a source of strength and comfort his life and psalms are for us as we too face the trials and testings of life. —Drew Craig

My soul crieth out: restore me again and give me the strength to take,
The narrow path of righteousness, e’en for His own name’s sake. —Jesse S. Irvine

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 14:1-32; Psalm 119:1-40; Mark 4:21-41

Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in His holy place? He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. Psalms 24:3-4

These questions find their perfect answer in God’s "Anointed One," the Messiah. Only He is qualified to occupy the throne of the universe. His creative powers, His moral perfection and His triumphs over sin and Satan ensure that He has no rival. He and only He, is “King of kings and Lord of lords!” —George Hall

Let every creature rise and bring,
Peculiar honours to our King;
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud “Amen”! —Isaac Watts

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 13:24-59; Psalm 118; Mark 4:1-20

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. John 20:29

We never witnessed one of His miracles nor listened to one word He spoke. We never saw Him as He lived in full obedience to His Father's will. Yet one day we shall and it could be today! Are you ready for His return? Are you ready to see Him and be with Him for all eternity? —John M. Clegg

We saw Thee not when thou didst come,
To this poor world of sin and death,
Nor e’er beheld Thy cottage home,
In that despised Nazareth;
But we believe Thy footsteps trod,
Its streets and plains, Thou Son of God. —John H. Gurney

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 12 to 13:23; Psalms 116-117; Mark 3:13-35

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation. Jude 1:3a

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation? Heb. 2:3a

The common salvation is also a great salvation. It is common in that it is available to all without distinction and without exception. The fact that it is common makes it great. Jude enjoyed this thought so much that he planned to write an epistle about it. He would have understood, with the writer to the Hebrews, that there are many other things that make it great too. It is eternal, it is secure, it is complete and it is without money and without price. Therefore we should not neglect it but rejoice in it and spread it forth. Perhaps I will have an opportunity today! —Roy Hill

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 11; Psalms 113-115; Mark 2:23 to 3:12

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20

This is one of the big secrets of Christian living—a continual acknowledgement of the goodness of God in all circumstances. This can be very hard at times—and not many have suffered as the apostle did in his walk with God—but it is the key to humility and true joy. Unthankful believers will always be negative and miserable, and it is other believers who have to endure them! —Brian Russell

Thou Life of my life, blessed Jesus, Thou death of the death that was mine,
For me Thy cross and Thine anguish, Thy love and Thy sorrow divine;
Thou suffered the cross and the torment, that I might forever go free,
A thousand, a thousand thanksgivings, I bring, blessed Saviour, to Thee! —E. C. Homburg

Lord’s Day, April 3, 2011

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 10; Psalms 111-112; Mark 2:1-22

And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually. 2 Samuel 9:7

Lame on both his feet, fearful Mephibosheth was brought before the King. After hearing David’s gracious words he reverently bowed in gratitude and said: "What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I?" We too, helpless sinners, once in a far off place, are brought as sons to sit at the Lord’s table by the grace of God. Let us worship Him today for all His mercy and love to us. —E. MacLelland

Precious moments at Thy table, from all fear and doubt set free;
Here to rest, so sweetly able, occupied alone with Thee. —Thompson

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 9; Psalms 109-110; Mark 1:21-45

For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life. Psalms 31:13

The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? Psalms 118:6

Perhaps today has found you overwhelmed with distress. It’s good to know that though fears may surround us, the Lord is near. His comfort is on every side and He will deal with each fear and give us peace! We need only trust Him. Meditate on the chapters mentioned above and be reminded again how we can rest safely in His loving hands. —Pete Smith

What have I to dread, what have I to fear?
I have blessed peace, with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms. —Elisha A. Hoffman

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 8; Psalm 108; Mark 1:1-20

For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Malachi 3:6

The only certain thing in this world is change. The fickleness of the human heart is never satisfied. Celebrities and personalities are always pursuing some new thing, while the world looks on in unhealthy fascination and then seeks to mimic them. But the Lord, our source of eternal, sure hope and of constant stability never changes. Let us then be faithful, living in daily dependance on our unchanging Lord Jesus! —Mark Fenn

I change, He changes not; the Christ can never die:
His love, not mine, the resting-place,
His truth, not mine, the tie. —Horatius Bonar

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 7:11-38; Psalm 107; Acts 28:17-31

Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. Acts 14:22

Tribulations and troubles of various kinds are frequently encountered along the Christian pathway. The apostles preached a wellrounded message of peace and hope in the midst of sufferings. They did not sugarcoat the message, much less proclaim prosperity in this life to their hearers. They candidly told the new converts of the difficulties ahead, while assuring them that their resources in Christ were able to strengthen them and carry them safely to heaven. —K. R. Keyser

Though thy way be long and dreary, eagle strength He’ll still renew,
Garments fresh and foot unweary, tell how God hath brought thee through.—J. N. Darby

DAILY READINGS: Leviticus 6:8 to 7:10; Psalm 106; Acts 28:1-16

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27

In recent years the world has lurched from one state of turmoil to another. The term 9/11 will be forever etched in the annals of history. The downward spiral has continued since then. The crash of the world's financial system. Continued terrorism and war. The doom and gloom warnings of global warming. But our Lord Jesus Christ is still able to calm troubled hearts. Oh what peace He brings! Do you know Him? —Jim Paul

Because He lives I can face tomorrow, because He lives all fear is gone,
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives. —B. Gaither
