The chaplain sat by the bed of a dying criminal and repeated this verse over and over. When the peace of sins forgiven was on the convict’s face, the chaplain left. Entering the street, he heard a newsboy announcing the death of the King at whose side the Queen had sat, reading the promises of Scripture and its forgiveness. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9, KJV

How can God conclude this when many people appear decent and upright? Scripture says, “For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart,” (1 Samuel 16:7, KJV). “There is none righteous, no, not one,” (Romans 3:10, KJV). How then can we be made right with God? “Cast away from you all your transgressions…make you a new heart, and a new spirit: for why will ye die?” (Ezekiel 18:31, KJV). Dear unsaved one, confess your iniquities today, and turn to Christ to receive a new heart, and the gift of eternal life. —W. H. Burnett

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 

Salvation is the key theme of this text, and three things are readily observed about it. First, its narrowness—“there is salvation in no one else” (see John 14:6). Second, its name—“there is no other name under heaven given among men” (see Matthew 1:21). Third, its necessity—”by which we must be saved” (see John 3:7). After throwing Joseph into a pit to die, his brothers sat down to enjoy a good meal! Little did they realize that years later Joseph would become their ruler and they would have to bow at his feet. Having nailed the Saviour to the cross, the soldiers sat down and watched Him, callously ignorant of the fact that He was dying for their sin. Is it possible you are doing the same? Why not acknowledge Him as Saviour today and put your faith in Him? Waiting until you bow before Him as your judge will be too late. —David Croudace

The old bachelor’s yard was in disarray, his car was a wreck, and housekeeping was non-existent. The sign above his door was appropriate, “Bless This Mess.” Many lives today have become “a mess.” Some feel there is no hope. Dear friend, God is in the business of saving such lives. Do you desire to have your life ordered by God and to become a man or woman of God? Accept the Bible’s message, believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved and God will miraculously change you and your life. —Wade LeBlanc

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. 1 Timothy 6:7, NKJV

Much of the world’s activity is driven by the pursuit of wealth.  Those with little would like to have some and those who have much would like to get more. People ought to heed Paul’s words: they that will be rich have “pierced themselves through with many sorrows” (1 Timothy 6:10, NKJV). It is also true that at the end of life it will all be left behind. The Lord Jesus invites you today to put your trust in Him as your personal Saviour! Then you will have an inheritance incorruptible, undefiled that fades not away—an eternal possession. —Jim Paul

A department store near us recently held its “Grand Opening.” Thronging crowds waited 10 to 12 hours to be first inside. Through His substitutionary death on Calvary, Jesus opened wide the gates of heaven, yet so many have no interest and stand afar off. God loves us and is not willing that anyone should perish. He offers salvation freely to anyone who will receive Jesus Christ as their Saviour. Will you accept His offer today? —Jerry Proctor

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15

Jesus alone can save us because He alone does not need to be saved. Listen to His challenge: “Which one of you convicts me of sin?” (John 8:46). Listen to the replies. His enemies said, “No one ever spoke like this man!” (John 7:46). His judge said, “I find no guilt in him” (John 18:38). His executioner said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54). His friends, who knew Him best, said, “He committed no sin” (1 Peter 2:22). Jesus is the only one qualified to be our Saviour, for He alone was a flawless sacrifice. When a fire swept through their apartment, two young women died. The Fire Inspector quickly determined there were working smoke detectors in the apartment, but they had been deactivated when the girls were planning a party for smokers. Sadly, many people today have decided to deactivate the call of God when He lovingly warns them of coming danger. Listen to His voice. Judgment is coming, and it is time to accept the Lord Jesus as your personal Saviour. Do so today. —Arnot McIntee

The place still stands in Rome where Martin Luther climbed hundreds of steps on his hands and knees doing penance for his sins—or so he thought. Some time later, by the grace of God, the truth of God was revealed to his anxious soul, “The just shall live by faith!” Working will not save you, weeping will not save you, praying will not save you. It is by faith alone in the finished work of Christ. —E. MacLelland
