George Matheson

George Matheson (1842-1906) was born in Scotland, and although he lost much of his eyesight early in life, he nevertheless earned two degrees from the University of Glasgow. Despite his handicap, Matheson carried out a full range of pastoral duties, and his gifted imagination and ability to communicate attracted an overflow congregation. He is also remembered for a number of theological works, devotional volumes, and hymns, including the well-known “O Love That Will Not Let Me Go.”
