our_fathers_told_B-1786Our Fathers Have Told Us (September 2015) – Biography

By: S. Beck

Our Fathers Have Told Us focuses on the lives of two gospel pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. L. K. McIlwaine, who displayed, in over fifty years of labour in Nova Scotia, their love to sinners and to their Lord. There were many tears and suffering, hardship and trials, all of which were counted as nought in their consuming zeal to see souls saved. An imperative command drove the stalwart pioneers on, even at the cost of self-abnegation: sinners must hear the gospel of salvation through Christ Jesus the Lord.

Mr. and Mrs. McIlwaine lived a life of single purpose. With sincerity and humility, they simply trusted God and sought to introduce Him to others. The great, reverential fear they held of God implied little fear of man; fiath in a faithful God implied lack of dependence upon others. Consequently, they lived life to the full, in joyful abandonment to the will of God. They felt the dearness of fellowship with Him, the contentment of being in His will, the thrill of seeing His hand, the blessing of feeling His presence. Caring not for the temporal things of earth, seeking to lose their life in the work of the gospel, they found the life that is worth living. In addition to carrying out a contented and purposeful existence on earth, they stored up eternal treasure to be enjoyed throughout eternity.

Praise_Songs_B-5532Praise Songs of Israel (September 2015) – Devotional

By: Albert E. Horton

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth” Psalm 8:1a

The Psalms are actually poems, written by Hebrew poets many generations ago. There is a great deal of poetry in the Old Testament.

As we study such Psalms we gain some idea of the greatness and glory of our God. May the study of the Psalms help us as we go on meditating on these wonderful “Praise Songs!” May the Lord enable us all to be for His praise and for His pleasure! What a privilege is ours—to be enabled by Him to give Him pleasure! No creature of His could be given greater privilege!

NEW Not My Will: An Autobiography

Not My Will
By: Ghislaine Spence

Order now!

The inspiring true story of a French-Canadian girl’s struggles with submission to the Lord’s Will

On the voyage of life we’re often fearful, confused, and question the Lord’s dealings with us. Ghislaine Spence—a wife, mother and grandmother, has felt the same.

Not My Will is Spence’s autobiographical account of her journey on the pathway of life. Beginning with her early childhood in Quebec, it traces her upbringing, relationships, life experiences, and times of grief and tragedy. It also chronicles the struggles that ultimately carried her and her husband to a prison ministry. An incredibly inspiring story, it shows how the Lord sends adversity in our lives—not only to reshape us, but also to teach us the enjoyment of His love, fellowship and peace that can only come through submission to His will. “…Who teacheth like him?” (Job 36:22).

Reviews of Not My Will:

“I read the whole book almost in a day. I truly enjoyed it. My husband is reading it now.”  (D.B. – Ontario, Canada)

“I can’t remember if I ever thanked you for your inspiring, encouraging, moving book called, Not My Will. I enjoyed reading it very much. It made me laugh, smile, weep, and thank the Lord. It is great to see the Lord’s loving hand at work and to say, “This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” Ps. 118:23. Like in the Choice Gleanings calendar this morning ~ suffering is part of life, but for the believer it can be an opportunity to deliver an incredible message. You have an incredible message in your book, a message about His love and peace.” (J.B. – Kentucky)

“I loved how the Lord revealed His will in your life… It made me want that same thing for my life.” (N.H. – Iowa)

“…I read it straight through and cried and cried… I know the Lord’s timing was absolutely perfect as I soaked in the encouragement that many of the scriptures offered. The Lord’s words endure and are applicable through so many of our trials. I needed it all just then.”  (E.C. – Illinois)

“An inspiring story of faith being tested to the extreme, and the deep faith in her Lord that kept her going on…I can assure you that it will touch your heart and inspire you to live a life devoted to Jesus Christ.”

(R.B. – California)

Against the Flow: The Inspiration of Daniel in an Age of Relativism
By: John C. Lennox

Order today.

Daniel’s story is one of extraordinary faith in God lived out at the pinnacle of executive power. It tells of four young men, born in the tiny state of Judah around 500 B.C., and captured by Nebuchadnezzar, emperor of Babylon. Daniel describes how they eventually rose to senior positions of administration.

Daniel and his friends did not simply maintain their private devotion to God; they maintained a high-profile witness in a pluralistic society antagonistic to their faith. Their story carries a powerful message for us today. Society tolerates the practice of Christianity in private and in church services, but increasingly it deprecates public witness. If Daniel and his compatriots were with us today they would be in the vanguard of public debate.

This is a lucid and erudite examination of the life of Daniel from a leading expert on faith and science. In his first biblical work, Dr. Lennox provides a unique perspective on both Western society and biblical exegesis that will makeAgainst the Flow an instant classic encouraging Christians to speak out in our modern Babylon.

Author bio: John C. Lennox is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford and Fellow in Mathematics and Philosophy of Science at Green Templeton College. He lectures on Faith and Science for the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics. He is author of a number of books on the relations of science, religion and ethics. He and his wife Sally live near Oxford.

Coming Soon – Collected Writings of J. M. Davies

Gospel Folio Press carries a number of titles from J. M. Davies. We are excited to announce two new titles containing his collected writings coming soon!

Collected Writings of J. M. Davies
Compiled by: Mervyn Wishart

John Matthias Davies was born into a Baptist family in South Wales in 1895. As a boy of 15 he professed faith in Christ as a result of the earnest preaching of the local pastor. He emigrated to the USA in 1914 where he graduated from Moody Bible Institute and afterwards studied at Wheaton College where he acquired a working knowledge of Greek. During his student days he was greatly influenced by the ministry of Mr. Alfred Mace in Chicago and after a time of deep conviction he was received into fellowship with a local assembly in the city.

He arrived in India as a missionary in 1920 commencing work in Bangalore, later moving to Trichur in Kerala state where he and his wife served the Lord for 40 years. He mastered the Malayalam language in such a way that hundreds came to his meetings simply to hear a foreigner speaking fluently in the local language. Mr. and Mrs. Davies were much involved in developing the orphanage at Trichur which still continues today.

Mr. Davies also moved widely in the major cities of India engaged in Bible teaching. He took an uncompromising stand for the truth which he held dear. Mr. T.G. Samuel was one of a number of Indian brethren associated with Mr Davies. Together they visited many villages in Andhra Pradesh. Also among his fellow labourers were Mr. Handley Bird, Mr. Silas Fox, Mr. A Naismith and many others. Mr. Davies also had periods of profitable ministry in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

In the mid nineteen sixties he began to move in a teaching ministry in many parts of the English speaking world. After his re-marriage the couple lived in a Vancouver suburb, Mr. Davies having by then ceased from active work and travels. He was called into the Lord’s presence in 1990 at the age of 95.

Another New Henderson Title – The Evil Nexus

New arrival!

The Evil Nexus: Are You Aiding the Enemy?
By: Warren Henderson

“Nexus” speaks of a connection which links two or more things together. The Evil Nexus investigates seven ways that Christians can, often unwittingly, be unnaturally linked with the devil to accomplish his wicked agenda. Paul sharply rebuked believers in Galatia for their destructive conduct towards each other (Gal. 5:15). Regrettably, this onslaught continues to this day. The Christian community is the only army on earth which regularly permits the assault of its own soldiers, resolutely ignores their wounded, and abandons those missing in action.

Dear believer, is it possible that you are actively harming the body of Christ through devil-like behavior? Instead of being an ambassador of the Lord Jesus Christ, could you be the puppet of Satan, wreaking havoc in the Church? Is it possible that your envy, critical spirit, and pride have blinded you to the fact that you have become a meat cleaver in the devil’s hand to hack down the bride of Christ? Is the devil using you as bullhorn to incite his evil agenda in others? Peer down, look closely: is the splattered blood of your brethren soiling your self-righteous attire? Oh God, deliver us from the pagan sacrilege of offering such blood sacrifices to the god of this age! This carnage must stop! The Lord said, “every city or house divided against itself will not stand” (Matt. 12:25). How can the Church represent Christ to lost souls when believers are devouring each other? For the glory of God, may we consider our ways, repent, and stop aiding the enemy!
