David acknowledges, that without doubt, day by day, the Lord’s goodness and mercy follow him—goodness to supply every need, mercy to forgive every sin. In light of this, it was his heart’s desire to daily seek God’s presence and to behold His delightfulness (as ‘beauty’ can be translated). What blessings are ours to enjoy! And they shall be as though I had not cast them off: for I am the Lord their God, and will hear them. Zechariah 10:6

The theme of Zechariah is restoration, and this passage sums up what that means. Israel had wandered far from God, in many ways, and for many years. Yet they could never sink to any depth where God’s mercy could not reach them. Perhaps some sin or worldly distraction has caught your heart’s affection. As the seasons of sinful pleasure at last bear their tainted fruit in your conscience, He awaits your return with open arms. —Rick Morse

Behold the Man! John 19:5; Zechariah 6:12 NKJV

This phrase in John gives us history. In Zechariah it is prophecy. In John, Pilate, the representative of human government, presented the Lord Jesus to the crowd. In Zechariah, it is God the Father presenting the coming King to the world. In the first instance, soldiers scourged the Lord, spit upon Him, and clothed Him with a purple robe and
a crown of thorns. They mocked Him by saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” (John 19:3). In the second scene, the Lord appears clothed in glory and majesty, a crown is given, and He sits and rules on a throne. What a contrast! —Gary McBride

I can’t fully describe the joy of being with our two daughters when they saw the Rocky Mountains for the first time! We stood in awe of what our Creator had done. Majestic mountains! Truly a beautiful sight to behold. One day soon we will behold the everlasting God, our dear Lord and Saviour! It was an amazing experience to sit with my mother during the last days of her life. She clearly understood that she would soon be with the Lord whom she had loved and served for over sixty years. During those final days and then hours I talked with her and prayed and through it all I never saw a flicker of fear, uncertainty or doubt. She knew that to leave the body would transform her into the Lord’s presence. She certainly lived out the truth of our verse because as the shadow of death engulfed her she knew no evil. She had no sense of danger because she experienced the Lord’s presence. Strangely, I found it a privilege to see her die so well. —Paul Young

Your little room or your special chair may be your cave just now as the storms are passing by. David’s thoughts went higher than the protection the rock walls his cave afforded him. He envisioned himself sheltered beneath protective wings. Perhaps, he inherited the comforting metaphor from his great grandparents (Ruth 2:12). Nothing had
changed outside the cave that night, but beneath those wings, David was able to “awaken the dawn” (v. 8) with the music that flowed from his steadfast heart as he worshiped his God. —Peter Ramsay

His military career now over, God still had work for Joshua as an administrator. Today the Lord exhorts every saint to labour until their final breath, using their gifts for His glory. Should any have reached the age where it is not physically possible they can still serve the Lord through intercessory prayer. Finish well, beloved!  —George Ferrier

But it is this very thing—living quiet, godly, confident lives in the family and the fellowship of God’s people, that reveals what we are really like inwardly. Being consistent when no one notices is how grace and truth are revealed. In ordinary events of life, Abraham learned God is the “everlasting God”, unchangeable and dependable. In ordinary living, in fellowship with the Lord,

Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write to you. 1 Thessalonians 1:8; 4:9 NKJV

Faith goes out by sharing with others. For, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17 NKJV). Love is shown by caring for others. The believers at Thessalonica are a great example. They were sharing their faith and showing their love. They didn’t have to be told to tell others. They didn’t need written instructions on how to love others. Do we need to be reminded?  —Rex Trogdon
